Development Story

Where serendipity sparks inspiration.

The time spent tweaking knobs on your usual synthesizer in pursuit of the ideal sound is pure bliss. Yet a thought crossed my mind: "Isn’t there a different approach? A way to playfully interact with unknown sounds?"

This small seed of curiosity blossomed into the synthesizer known as Expetri. What I was yearning for was liberation from the meticulous task of "constructing" sound. I wanted an entirely new sound design experience—something more serendipitous and intuitive.

That is when the metaphor of a "chemistry experiment" struck me. While building the design prototype, I placed a virtual "petri dish" on the screen. Inside, sound cells quietly pulse with life. They divide, bond, and interfere with each other’s waveforms, constantly changing shape.

All you have to do is gently reach out and touch them. Stir the culture fluid to give their cellular activity a pleasant stimulus. Use a pipette to drop in a single, fresh sound cell. It is no longer just playing a musical instrument; it is an "experiment"—observing an unknown ecosystem unfold. That is exactly why Expetri is not a synthesizer for "dialing in a targeted sound." It is a synthesizer for "experimenting with and nurturing sound."

Try keeping Expetri open in the corner of your project. When you hit a creative wall, or simply want to give your ears a short break, casually open Expetri and whimsically stir the cells. In an unexpected moment, your very own "rare cell" might be born. If you pour in plenty of a liquid called "effects," a brand new, unheard-of sound might just come to life.

My greatest joy as a developer would be if these quiet little experiments with Expetri became a new avenue for sound design, bringing unexpected inspiration to creators all over the world.

You don’t need a lab coat. Just bring your curiosity and start your very own sonic experiment with Expetri.
